Gdubs' CoD Tips
Hey guys- I had posted these when i was here a few weeks ago, but there are a large number of new members who haven't had a chance to try these out. These are the first 5 tips and I am planning on having this being a type of a series of mine. These tips can help out anyone, the hardened veteran or the FPS new guy, and everyone in between. Let me know what you guys think. If this is received well by the clan, I will continue to post new tips every week. Once I am done with the tips, I will start posting up some general Class setups for various gameplays/types, killstreak setups, etc.
1.Pay Attention to Your Mini-Map
I understand that we play mostly hardcore gametypes, which means that there is not normally a mini-map. But, when we have a spy plane up, the mini-map is there. Your mini-map will help out more than you probably know. The mini-map allows you to have a birds-eye view of the map at your location. That will allow you to plan your movement accordingly. Since we play mostly hardcore, if your mini-map is showing, then that means you have a spy plane up. The spy plane is something that will help you out a lot. You need to pay attention to enemy movement based on the spy plane, but you cannot allow yourself to become a slave to the spy plane. A lot of people use Ghost, which allows them to be invisible to spy planes. So, you need to make sure that you are moving according to enemy movement, but you also need to be very careful to make sure you don’t get picked off by a Ghost user.
2.Know Your Team’s Location
This is something that will help you out tremendously. The number one thing that you can learn from knowing your team’s location is the location of the enemy’s spawn. I am not talking about attempting to spawn trap a team, because in Team Deathmatch, spawn trapping is fairly impossible on MOST maps. It is important to know, because then you will know where to set up. If most of your team is on one side of the map, then you can allow yourself to set up watching the other side of the map. Yes, sometimes the spawn system in CoD is broken, but most of the time you can allow it to work to your advantage without abusing it. Knowing your team’s location can also help you out, because if members of your team start getting picked off, then you can generally tell where the conflict is coming from, although communication would also help you out there.
3.Sensitivity
Your controller’s sensitivity is something that can either help you or hurt you. If you are having trouble getting good hits on enemies then you most likely need to turn down your sensitivity. You need to make sure that you are comfortable with your sensitivity; if you’re not, then you will not play well. The higher your sensitivity, the better you will play. A higher sensitivity will help you move your view faster. You will be able to turn around much quicker. If you are thinking about changing your sensitivity, then you must make it a slow change. Say you’re playing on 4 sensitivity, but you want to raise it. Take it to 5 and get comfortable with that before you move on. Personally, I play on 8 and will not change it. In my opinion, anything past that is a little too much. Most casual players will not be able to handle that high of a sensitivity, so please do not let my own settings cause you to go too high. Find a sensitivity that suits you and stick with it.
4.Get Behind Cover
Cover is your friend in CoD. Especially in Hardcore gametypes. When I am playing, I always move along the outer edges of a map. When you decide to sit down and set up somewhere, you must check around you for cover in case things get hairy. When there are multiple enemies closing on your position, then you must make sure you have something you can duck behind. Pick off as many of them as you can, get behind cover, and then get back up for the others. When you are moving around a map, you must make sure you are checking for cover wherever you are at, it will save your life.
5.Make Calculated Decisions
This is probably one of the most important things that will help you out. I will give you three examples of how your decisions will impact your gameplay. The first example is when and when not to shoot. If you see an enemy crossing in front of you, but you’re not sure whether or not you can get an effective shot off, then don’t shoot. Every time you fire your weapon you give away your position, whether or not you have a suppressor attached to your weapon. Especially if the enemy is close to you. It is always better to allow the enemy to cross and then watch for them to come out the other side. Always remember, if you don’t think you can hit the enemy and you know if you fire you will give away your position, then don’t shoot. Be patient. The second example is when your character pulls himself up and over barriers, walls, etc. Every time you do that, your character makes a grunting sound. Players that are very conscience of their surroundings will notice that and find you helplessly lifting yourself up and shoot you. I know it, because I do the same thing when I’m playing. So, if you are going to do that, then just remember to be cautious. The third example is knowing when the enemy team has a spy plane up. The game will always notify you if the enemy team has a spy plane up, so you need to make sure you are paying attention to that. Especially if you are not using ghost. If they have a spy plane up then you know that they can see you. If you are using ghost and the enemy has a spy plane up then you can easily use that to your advantage since they are going to be watching for the red dots on their mini-map, and then you can pop right in and take them down.

Re:Gdubs' CoD Tips
Good stuff Gdubs...hopefully people will read this and use it.
I like the tip on selective shooting. I don't always shoot at everything I see myself, I only shoot when I know I am going to get the kill. That is why I remain so concealed from the enemy most of the times. I also rarely move because these headsets are getting better and better at picking up even the slightest movements.
2 thumbs up for this one!

Re: Gdubs' CoD Tips
Very nice job Gdubbs. And don't forget.DO NOT TURN CORNERS! Haha.I know some people have a problem with that.I'm not sure if you said it in there, I did read I swear :P.But I know a lot of people like to turn corners and that gets them killed. But extremely nice job Gdubbs!Love this post! <3

Re: Gdubs' CoD Tips
Yeah, not turning corners will help out a lot, especially for the newer members. I simply don't turn corners unless I really have to turn them.
-
Re:Gdubs' CoD Tips
Yeah me too Cheech. I try my hardest not to shoot at someone if I doubt that I'm going to get the kill when they're about to be behind cover or whatever.Gives away your position usually and then they know about where to look for you.And dang your headsets!!! Accusing those of us with ninja on that we don't just coz your headsets make you hear like a Bat!!!! xD

Re:Gdubs' CoD Tips
Haha, sweet. Awesome tips there. Yeah I try to avoid corners, them and me dont mix well XD
-
Re:Gdubs' CoD Tips
Well corners are only if u must have to turn them keep your teammates informed of what u see is one of the missing ones. you should always try to avoid unneccesary shooting since we all play harcore unless its with a silencer and even then try not to shoot unless u got a good shot. for the newcomers looking at this try guns that fit ur style of play until u can get used too other styles of play that fit the team. overall you hit good tips keep in mind that if ur not talking let others talk so u can get intel on enemy u know i still gotta get back into it so ill be moving alot but i gotta keep the points of interest available so i can memorize then and keep them handy u know its always helpfull if u know where they are coming from u know mostly in my games i try to catch them of guard going trough their blind spots but thats just me like in all games i use stealth to my advantage try to do the same. it works ok if anyone has questinos im back on ps3 as well as on xbox now that i have a copy to work with see u guys tom about 4 o clock my time N.C

Re: Gdubs' CoD Tips
HERE YA GO GUYS! The next 5 of my CoD tips!
1.Listen to Your Surroundings
This is another tip that could easily go under the idea of making calculated decisions. The developers of CoD always try to make sure their players can use the game’s sound to their own advantage. There are a lot of different sounds that are made in a normal game of CoD. I completely understand that Treyarch has decided to make Ninja Pro completely silent. The problem with that is that most people either have not fulfilled the Ninja Pro requirements or just flat out don’t decide to use it. If an enemy is using Ninja Pro, you basically will not be able to use the surrounding sounds to your advanatage. You will need to rely on other abilities to conquer them. I will be covering those other abilities. The rest is for enemies that are NOT using Ninja Pro. Whether it’s the sound of the enemy picking up ammo or it’s the sound of the enemy calling out snipers, you can use all of these things to your advantage. Example: Your teammate is using a L96A1. You are right behind him/her watching their back. Your teammate kills an enemy. You hear in the background “SNIPER!.” That means that there is an enemy within your range. Plain and simple. LISTEN. There are so many different things that Treyarch has added into their game that is meant to elevate the ability of a good listener. Most players think that they need to pay attention listening to footsteps, but the enemy team makes a lot of other sounds as well. Ninja pro silences the sound of your footsteps, so instead of listening so hard for footsteps, try and listen for other sounds. If an enemy is near you and reloads, you will be able to hear it. If the enemy is near you and walks over some ammo, you will be able to hear that. Try and pay attention to that and your gameplay will pick up even more. LISTEN LISTEN LISTEN. Pay attention to what your teammates are saying. Past that, listen to what your environment is telling you.
2.Know Your Maps
This is arguably the most important tip of them all. If you do not know your maps then you will be absolutely hopeless. ESPECIALLY with the way that our clan strategically designs gameplay. If you do not know the exact pathways of enemies to your position, you will fail. You need to know EVERY way that an enemy can come into your line of sight or even location. If you do not know, you put yourself in danger and you put the ENTIRE team in danger. I am fairly certain that most of our members know their maps fairly well. If you do not know your maps well and you plan on being an established member of this clan, then you need to go into Combat Training and run through every single map until you know them like the palm of your hand. For those that are experienced, if you come into a problem with an enemies location, just refer to your mini-map. I understand that this will only be available for us with a UAV online (since we play mostly HC) but that will help you a lot. We play hardcore. That means, for the most part, we will not have a mini-map available. This only increases the need for our members to KNOW THEIR MAPS. It will help out the team and it will HELP YOU OUT.
3.Communication
I cannot stress this enough. You need to communicate. Let me just give you a quick summary of how we run communication in CAG. Everyone is quiet. Chatter and personal talk is reserved for the chat room on the website and/or in the Pregame Lobby. The only chatter that should be heard in-game should be call-outs, places you have been killed, your own location, orders from the SQUAD LEADER/OFFICER that has authority over the party, or enemy killstreaks that are online. Chatter is a distraction. Listen to your squad leader/officer. The reason that they are in that position is because they have earned it. Your own opinions can either be expressed in the pregame lobby or on the website. BE MATURE with your opinions. When you see an enemy, call out their location. Kill them, then acknowledge that you have killed them. When you have died, do your best to call out your location and where you were killed from. Sometimes this is difficult, but do your best. When we start a game, when spawns have flipped, or when you have respawned, let the team know where you are located and what section of the area you have under watch. Communication is INCREDIBLY important.
4.Be Aware of Your Surroundings
This one is fairly simple. Know where you are located. If you are watching an area that has four possible areas of entry for an enemy, make sure you are spanning across each of those four areas. Lets take Jungle for example. The team is located in the Ruins. Your assigned location is the Goat Path coming from the left side of the map. You must be PRIMARILY watching that Goat Path and making sure you are watching for sneaky little buggars that are going prone trying to get you. Your secondary watch is the creek bed. You need to pay more attention to the Goat Path than the creek because someone is going to be watching the creek, but there is no reason why you shouldn’t be checking for it as well. ALSO, perfect example for the Goat Path guard. Stay behind the rocks. If you poke your head out, you are vulnerable to shots from the Sniper Rock and also the Small Hut on the left hand side leading down to the Goat Path. BE AWARE. Know where you can be killed from. Know where enemies can see you on a flanking route or on a middle of the map route. You need to be aware of everything. If you are standing next to a car or an explosive barrel, blow that shit up first. You don’t want to be embarrassed because you weren’t watching where the hell you were standing. Being aware of your surroundings not only encompasses where you are watching for enemies; you need to know where you are at and where an enemy can kill you.
5.Use Killstreaks that YOU can get
Yes. We all love getting Blackbirds and Chopper Gunners. Believe me, theres nothing better to me than getting a good batch of doggies after gunning down multiple enemies with a Chopper Gunner and THEN having a Blackbird ready to launch. It just doesn’t happen every damn game. When you are playing with a full team of CAG, don’t have your killstreaks raised so high. ESPECIALLY if you do not think you will be able to get those killstreaks game after game. Let me give you an example of my own normal HC TDM killstreak setup. I have gotten plenty of Dogs/Hinds. I love getting multiple kills with a killstreak, but what I love better is helping out the ENTIRE team. We play Hardcore. That means that the mini-map is not always accessible for use. The ability of having the mini-map is something that can change the tide of a game. For that reason, I always run Spy Plane-Attack Helicopter-Blackbird. 2 of those 3 help out the team as a whole tremendously. Everyone can use the Spy Plane and everyone can use the Blackbird. Yes, the attack chopper helps out the teammates in the fact that less enemies are available to kill/kill you, or make more of the enemy team funnel inside to avoid the chopper, but REALLY its so that I can get some kills. I run those killstreaks because I am comfortable with the fact that I can get them. If you are not comfortable with that, then choose a different setup! Use this: Spy Plane, Counter Spy Plane, Care Package/Napalm. Napalm is very useful. Care packages are very useful, especially if you have a teammate with Hardline Pro enabled. The importance of killstreaks is paramount. CoD has always been killstreak heavied. Killstreaks are important and WILL change the tide in a game. Make sure that you have killstreaks enabled that YOU can attain and the game will be won. Because we are CAG and we will ALWAYS win in the end.
Thats all for now, I have 5 more CoD tips and then I will be moving on to Killstreak Setups and Sample Class Setups. I hope you all enjoy this and I hope that you all will learn something!

Re: Gdubs' CoD Tips
Just a quickie...
If you DO hear foot steps, and you ask someone if it's them, it might be a better option to quickly check your map to see if there's an arrow near you showing your team mate. This will probably be quicker than waiting for a response from your teammate to tell you whether or not it's them. I know I used it lots today for that purpose, and more than usual it was NOT a teammate and was able to take the guy out before he got near me.

Re: Gdubs' CoD Tips
I always check my map so I know if there is someone besides my team mates around.
That map is so under rated and everyone should use it more often.
