    Battlefield 1 Weapon Classes Revealed

    Posted June 2016

DICE reveals the multiplayer classes for the newly-announced Battlefield 1, with the World War I-themed shooter gaining some brand new classes and regaining some old ones.

After what seemed like a long wait, developer DICE has now confirmed the next game in the acclaimed Battlefield franchise. A highly-promoted reveal eventually led to the announcement of Battlefield 1, a title that is set to bring the shooter series into a World War I-era setting. That’s not going to be the only change to the Battlefield format, however, as DICE has also revealed some changes to the class structure of the game.

The developer has announced that there will be four core classes: Assault, Medic, Scout, and Support. Long-term fans of the Battlefield series may be surprised to see the return of the Medic class for Battlefield 1, as the role of a healer has been combined into the Assault build since Battlefield 2. It looks as though these classes will continue their somewhat traditional multiplayer roles, although lead game designer Daniel Berlin has stated that DICE is “still throwing weapons and gadgets around” until the developer comes up with the perfect balance.

As seen in the reveal trailer that dropped yesterday, there are more parties involved in the gameplay of Battlefield 1 than simply foot soldiers. Both bi-planes and tanks are due to be a major part of the single player game, and this will also be true of the multiplayer, as DICE has actually responded to this need with a pair of new classes specifically for vehicle use. Alongside the main classes, users can also choose Tanker or Pilot, aimed towards the game’s tanks and flying vehicles.

Although at this point it is unclear as to whether gamers will spawn directly into a vehicle or have to pick one up like previous games in the Battlefield franchise, the role of these two new classes is also interesting. It could add a real new dynamic to proceedings, giving Battlefield 1 a slightly different feel from other games in the franchise. Indeed, even the other four classes will need plenty of exploration, with the addition of the Medic class suggesting that cooperation will be on the agenda for multiplayer users.

Those interested in the title will not have long to wait to get their hands on a snippet of the game’s multiplayer, however. DICE has confirmed that Battlefield 1 will be getting an open beta, much like many other games in the developer’s recent library. Although DICE did not confirm exactly when the beta would take place, the developer did reveal that EA Insiders members would get access to the beta first.

Given the success of previous DICE-developed Battlefield games, many may suspect that the multiplayer side of things is bound to be a success. However, questions have already been raised about the single player, with a leak suggesting that the campaign will only consist of six levels. Of course, only time will tell, and DICE is bound to reveal more about the game in the coming months.
