The converter I found works just doesn't do sound so if I've read right a headset adapter will pump sound that way? Is that right?

Yes it Is. I used a computer monitor for a long time, no speakers. Headset adapter worked perfectly. Or, you can wait till the 16th and just get the new Xbox one controller with a built in 3.5mm headphone jack.
