You want to try changing your internet channel to the channel that has the strongest optimal strength.
Also everyone's router should have the option in settings where u can actually decide what devices connected to it take priority signal strength over each other.for instance my router had my laptop as the main device connected months ago(which I wasn't aware of)so was getting the majority of my signal so I changed this within the settings to direct the signal straight to my xbox and it helped greatly.
Like u say if all this fails I find when u hit lag spikes slow your gameplay down.dont go seeking gun battles,let them come to u and pre fire.thinking ahead of time does help.

There should be a settings menu then possibly an advanced settings menu.Channel settings and device settings are mainly located under the advanced settings menu although every routers menu will be different due to different ISPs layout but it'll be there.
The channel might take u a bit of time mess about with it before u find the optimal channel.its really trial and error with this.
Once u sort ur devices out though this should be half the battle and improve things.

I'm in full agreement with Huxley and Ginger. Connection does tend to be better when your paired up with others in you area. I also notice when me and redneck are pair both of us can have beast games since we're only a few states away. Besides an all European team would double are chances in clan wars.
