    Computer Problems

As some of you know, I have had computer problems since before I joined CAG... I had it up and running today! And then it made this weird squeaking "bug in an electric racquet" screechy noise from the tower case; and then it started displaying squares and rectangles on the screen, fist in blues, then it went black, then to green, then black, and then back to blues... After that the CPU shut down, and it will not turn on.

I run an ASUS Guru mobo, and it is displaying 9.6 on its diagnosis LCD. I have unplugged the power supply unit, in case it's a short.

Any idea what the sound may have come from? PSU, CPU Fan? Does the PSU smell burnt?

No odors emanated from the tower, but I have no idea where the sound came from... I do know it was lower in the tower, so not from fans or PSU. Could've been the coolant pump, or possibly the HDD *cringe* I'm hoping coolant pump, because the CPU is set to shut off BEFORE any damage could be done, upon faults with the cooling system... I'll probably crack it tomorrow and start individually testing to find the problem.

I can't get it to POST but I have managed to get some debug codes fired off...
    86- OEM DXE initialization Codes.

    96- PCI Bus Assign Resources.

And 9F- Reserved for future AMI Code.

I just realized this is NOT in the forum I intended it to be in. Could it possibly be moved to the PC Division Gen topics?

Beyond my level of PC knowledge, not much of diagnostic dude TBH. Thread has been moved as per requested however.

Thanks Blame. I'm just looking for any advice I can get. Not much of one myself... Just educated-ish guesses.

Ok, just so we are on the same terminology. By POST you mean not even the bios runs or meaning it will not boot the OS?

The PCI Bus error leads me to believe something you have plugged in to a PCI-E slot is bad. I don't see the INIT error being an issue for trying to get it to boot. I would start by removing all cards inside connected to motherboard (video, sound, usb, firewire, etc). Boot without the video card as well and listen for beeping error codes or if your mobo has it then look at the LCD readout. If the you get an error and it comes back as video then insert your video card as normal and try to boot. If you continue to get an error change the slot in which the video card is in. If you have only 1 PCI-E and the rest are 8x or 4x dont worry as it will still operate just fine. Hopefully this helps

The only thing "running" is the diagnostic LCD readout on MoBo; that's where the nostic codes came from that I looked up in MoBo's manual. PSU doesn't kick over, fans are off-line, no L.E.D. Status lights fire; just the LCD readout.

The strange thing being I don't have ANY PCI slots of any kind, lmao. I will still try booting with no cards attached, and just the O.S. H.D.D. This was my first plan of action, so am happy to have it corroborated.
