If you want to pay for it. If not when ever you are attacked, depending on how successful the attack was depends on how much of a shield is automatically applied

I have all level 2 and almost all level 3 now walls.
The attacks at my low level the guys don't do much damage yet.

But maybe spend 10 on gems in a few days.
