So I have been streaming off and on for the past couple years, mostly Minecraft, but earlier this week I bought a BlackMagic Intensity Pro which set me back about $189 USD. Its the one that has no case on it because it goes in a PCI-E slot on your motherboard instead of through USB 3.0 or Thunderbolt.

I also bought a $13 USD webcam which has a microphone on it so I dont have to worry about audio quality as the mike is pretty decent...

Now on the front of "Why should I use a capture card instead of the XBone built in streaming?"

you are not able to add an overlay, webcam, or anything else to your stream, which, if you want to attract attention you are going to want all of the flashy, flashy stuff.

As compared to my setup (XBOX into BMIP, BMIP into TV) I stream using an Open-Source, free program called Open Broadcaster Software, this program allows me to add all of the flashy things to my stream and also gives me scenes which ​***AS FAR AS I KNOW*** is another feature that the XBone live streaming app does not have. Basically what scenes do is give me the option to put up a AFK screen or something like that if I am going to take a short break, etc.

Now as far as which Capture card to get, as previously mentioned I bought the BMIP which is a PCI-Ex1 card, meaning that it is compatible with ALMOST any motherboard and as long as you are running at least an i5 (or equivalent) processor should work with your Windows, Mac, or Linux machine. Not all, but many cards that are not PCI-E are either USB3.0 or Thunderbolt. Depending on the age of your PC you may or may not have either of those connections and will not be able to use said cards.

Again this is all personal experience/opinion so just because it is long, don't take it too seriously

Something I forgot to point out is that I am pretty sure the BMIP (while it shows up in the options) record/stream at 1080p 60fps. It will do 1080p 30fps (really 29.97fps since that would be what the XBone is giving you) or 720p 60fps (again really 59.94).

This may sound like a bad thing, however when you are just starting out as a streamer you generally do not have enough viewers to get a quality option, which can harm the amount of viewers you get because not very many of them will be able to view your stream, even at 1080p 30fps.

Another big thing to consider is that if you go for a 1080p any fps stream you will have to have an i7 or better processor and at least a decent graphics card on your rig.

Just one last thing, then I'll be done, the webcam/mike combo I bought was the Logitech HD Webcam C310 it records at 720p and if you set up OBS right you won't get any background noise from it
