Just Sourced a New PC But...

Okay...so I was given a base unit for free, a lenovo h520s. It's got i5 quad...8g ram...2tb hdd (gonna change this for ssd when I can) and running Windows 8.1 after I upgraded it.

I've just bought and plumbed in a low profile nvidia GeForce GTX 750 ti gfx card and it's great.

I want to source a low profile psu now...350w or above but they are few and far between over here!

However, I've not played pc games for years. I have got my steam account up and running again and all I have on it is Half Life 2 and The Lost Coast.

I can run those at full spec which is nice considering this is a small pc...but are there any games that I can play on PC which will help me push the unit? Something other than battlefield or crysis...I'm after games I've not been playing on the consoles.

Is there anything that is pc exclusive that you guys would recommend?

keep the 2 TB for all your mods and shit and just use the SSD for the games themselves. the ideal set up is both but using your SSD ONLY for the games and nothing else.

I would like blame said keep the games and shit for your hdd and get a ssd for your boot drive but I guess its a little to late for that

Thanks for the notes chaps. Never too late to change things around. The unit has a built in iso recovery app so I might be able to use that.

Is it worth raid / striping the two drives? They need to be the same don't they?

I will probably look to get Arma 3 next month...wanna give Day Z a go too.

Same brand? I don't think so but not entirely sure. Not sure what you mean by raid/stripping the drives as well.

RAID is a practice when you have 2 or more hard drives you can essentially back up your data so you do not lose anything.

Here is a site with pretty pictures if you would like to learn more about RAID. I could explain it but the pictures will be better. RAIDs are very common practice in the business environment, not terribly necessary at home. But if you want go for it.

As far as this is concerned Arch, I would just keep your 2TB drive as a storage drive where you house your files. Similar to the theory of a file server in your PC. Then when you get your SSD load your OS and program files on it. This will make loads times for everything amazingly fast.
