Nvm, confirmed on help.bungie.net its a problem, probably related to the fact Xbox live friends service is down and has been since 5pm est. Both working on fix.
Party chat solution found. Exit and close destiny, start you party, invite members also with destiny closed, close party app, restart destiny. Will work until you snap app.

I think we r all single player so they can text server strength, so they'll open as many servers as possible for each person and see how long it can take the damage hence the opening of the moon, it makes the servers have to simulate drops and decisions and also to allow video into the server, they are wanting it to crash, they did tree he same thing for diablo 2 when it first came out because its got the same server layout I think, idk I may be wrong, raped the moon though and got myself a new shotty, a kinetic shotty too

You can explore the entire moon area if you don't hit the first mission objective when you go. Its massive!
