I get so upset when people treat being a gamer as such a bad thing. I was at a relatives house over the weekend and had to cut my time short there because of CW. I made the mention I had to be somewhere and they made the comment, "for what to play video games(with a snide tone)." If I would have said to catch a movie it would have been no big deal. Do you feel your hobby is under attack?

I stopped taking any notice of that shit years ago. It's just ignorance...generally from the older people.
Gaming has become such big business and is now a primary source of entertainment for many many people. It's more popular that TV FFS.
The way I look at it...I'm not out anymore getting wankered and into scrapes. I'm at home...playing with my buddies and chilling. I'm a much happier person for it.
Plus...my wife's cool with it...means she can read her books...so everyone's a winner

It all depends on the people, really. No one I know question my hobby anymore. Not even my parents. And all my friends are basically geeks like me.
So, yeah... I don't know. VGs are still young. The people who grew up with them have to grow old before we can really tell. ALL new things are frowned uppn, simple as that.

is it under attack? no. but is it legit? well i don't receive an income nor will i ever so at the end of the day it is a hobby but the problem is that some people, including myself at times, take it far beyond just a healthy hobby but it makes me happy and occupies time for now whilst i hover in limbo so if people get it, cool. if they don't i don't care. i certainly choose who i do and don't tell about my hobby. its almost like doing drugs, i feel ashamed to admit it to some peers but its whatever - they could all die in fiery plane crash tomorrow and i wouldn't loose a wink of sleep.

I get harassed quite a bit because I play a lot of video games, I love the accomplishment and finding the things in the cracks, I use to get into fights because of it,(thankfully I am a scrapper) now that I'm older I know tons of ppl who come to me for advise on every RPG that's major on the Xbox consoles, so I see the bad side of people but I also get the gratitude from others for adding them in making their gaming experiences a lot more gunner and making it much more simpler, so I honestly say fuck em, we all have a home here at CAG where none of these people exist, this is y we r here, so we can be around people who love gaming as much as we do and are very like minded. I havnt been long but this clan is still my home, my friendship, my family, and my brotherhood, its my sanctuary and my sanitation, so if being a gamer is wrong, I don't wanna be right

I try to keep my playing times to a minimum and my mom helps me keep my gaming from swallowing my life. She limits my time on XBOX to 2 hrs a day (which I religiously play from 8-10 PM). Yes I am still young and have many things to see and do rather than hole myself up on my room all day and play games. I honestly wouldn't enjoy that life because it would take away from higher priorities: friends family sports etc. I love doing many things than sticking to one hobby.
My friends always harass me about my gaming but I remind them they have their quirks as well. The thing is, gaming comes in my least of worries. If my friends call me up I will drop out of the lobby (after the game of course) and good off for a night. If my family goes out I will do the same. With school starting up for me in three weeks I might not have a lot of time to play xbox anymore... I'm taking all Honors and College (AP) courses so I'm trying to enjoy gaming as if now while still keeping it in moderation.
I view gaming as a hobby not a lifestyle. There should be nothing wrong with a gamer to begin with. If anyone tells us otherwise remind them it's our life not theirs.

Plenty of people make money gaming... YouTube can enable you to pay bills, paid testing buys cars, devving and design buys houses... Its all in how you look at "Gaming".
Look at the high end sponser E-Sports teams. They literally make million or more a year, depending on the wins, and sponsors are consistent for em. I used to be under a sponsorship but the stress from traveling was killer. Didn't have friends within the group and it made it hard.

Well hate usually comes from misunderstanding. So I think the hobby Is misunderstood and the people who participate in it get misunderstood too.

Well my parents thought I was becoming too aggressive and could hurt someone if I kept playing and I would become interested in the military. Turns out I should play it because it gets my stress out...
i mean i guess i can understand that but in the same sense a video game, movie, song or book will only influence a person as much as it lets them. there are minds that can't distinguish reality from fantasy but its up the parents to TALK to their kids and know exactly what kind of person they are. my mother knew me better than anyone ever has and probably ever will because we talked constantly about anything and everything.
