National Guard Info Needed

Hey guys! I'm looking for some unbiased info on the National Guard. As some of y'all know, I'm a single mom and times are tough. I've been trying to find alternate means of income and haven't come up with anything helpful. My parents and I have been talking about the possibility of me joining the National Guard since I could do that as well as go back to school in an attempt to get my masters. I know that recruiters have an agenda and I'm worried they won't be completely upfront about the pros and cons. So....any veterans have any helpful advice? The only reason I'm not in the military already is because as a single mom I didn't want to have to give up custody of my child. I'm a committed parent so please keep that in mind. Thanks guys!!

You do not have to give up custody of your child. You will have to have a family care plan establish tho. It's basically ac plan of someone that will take of your child in the event of you going to the field or deploying

I thought the Guard are part time soldiers. Kinda like weekend and some time you'll go out for a week or so for training. If that's the case you wouldn't have to give up your kid just have steady babysitter. I would think it's a great opportunity and they would help you pay for school but service is twice as long as full time.

I don't know if anything has changed but reservists are federal fund and national guard are state fund. When I was in the national guard we were getting hand me down from active duty and reservist. Maybe things have changed. Why isn't active duty a option... U have to do the same basic and advance school as active duty members

The last time I checked with a recruiter, any active duty you can't be a single parent. So I would basically have to give custody of Trystan over to my parents. That wasn't something I was willing to consider, so that threw that idea out the window.

NG isn't active duty. And I know women who had the grandparents watch them If
Deployed or sent on training

I'm doin air national guard soon here, my grandfather did it for 30 years and he said he can't think of a single down side other than it part time til u can apply for full, but he loved it and two of my friends are guard n love it
