Okay, this is MY review, not some youtubers or "pro gamers" review.
I unlocked it earlier today when playing with Blame and he can back me up on some of this.
Now that that's out of the way lets begin.
To unlock the Shield you need to do this:
5 Savior Kills
20 Suppression Assists
Destroy 3 Explosives
It's really easy to do but I found that the "Suppression Assists" only counted when I was playing as the Support class. Not sure if it's a bug or just didn't count them for me.
Now the Shield it self is NOT 100% bullet proof. The glass can be shot out and you can be killed by getting shot in the face. The glass will always break if you are anywhere near an explosion.
The shield works well when holding down a hallway as long as you have people behind you shooting enemy's, medics dropping health. It's not perfect though. It is utterly useless against ANY kind of explosive (which is expected). So after messing around with it and getting a few kills by bashing some nublet brains in I figured out the most effective way to use it.
Your going to want at LEAST a 4 man squad who are Communicating and Playing as a Squad. This is important or this set up WILL NOT WORK.
4 Man Squad Build:
1. Support with Ballistic Shield, MP-APS, and Perimeter Defense Upgrades.
2. Support with Ballistic Shield, Ammo Bag, and Defensive Upgrades.
3. Assault with Defibs, Medic Bag, and Combat Medic Upgrades.
4. Assault with Defibs, M320 HE / LVG / 3GL, and Grenade Upgrades.
Why this set up?
The APS will block some explosives from the start, but when you get to level 4 upgrades it will block all most all explosives and increases the time before it has to recharge.
The Ammo bag (for ammo obviously) and because the APS AND Shields WILL break after a time or from absorbing direct impacts with M320s. The Ammo bag will replace them as well.
Have both Shield Supports Kneel right next to each other. This makes the cover for your team behined you a whole lot better and makes it harder for bullets and explosives to get through.
MEDIC Assault for revives and heals.
M320 Assault to take out or injury a high number of enemy's fast to help hold the line, and revives.
This set will help you last a LONG time, just make sure enemy's don't come from behind.
5 Man Squad build is exactly the same except for adding a Aggressive Recon to mix.
Recon with Carbine, TUGS, Radio Beacon (placed in a SAFE area) or Claymores (Depends on how well your team is holding / defending with Spec Ops Upgrades.
Aggressive recon because another gun is always good. Placing the Tugs behind you will alert you to enemy's coming from behind. Claymores to set up rear defenses / Radio Beacon to help spawn in and get back to position / the fight ASAP.
So with these tips and tricks your Squad (At Least) should do very well. Again the success of these builds DEPENDS on your Squads Teamwork and Communication.
To give the Shield a rating of usefulness, out of 5?
I'm going to give it a 3.5 because it's only useful when playing with a Squad that is Communicating and using the Teamwork stated above.
Hope you guys found this useful or at least informative.
Mechos Out!!!!
