    Sequels That Surpassed the Original

alright all you lovers of cinema out there i want to know if there are any movie series which you feel the sequel is superior to the original. granted this is pure opinionated conversation so there isn't any wrong answer but in the same sense not everyone may agree. i feel like there are so few movies that had better sequels, normally the sequels are total duds, so i think this could be fun to try and name some of our own and then nit pick through them all collectively. i'd like to have everyone who participates collectively agree so we can definitely say "(insert title) was better than the original."

one of these that comes to my mind is Terminator 2. sure the first is timeless and classic but when they did the second James Cameron went all in with the special effects which is helpful for a Sci-Fi movie based on futuristic cyborgs. i like the thought of bringing the T100 back as the hero and the story for it was simple and it worked. i thought all of the chase scenes were fairly epic and between every climax of action there is some good character story.

anyone have a series or two where they thought the sequel was superior to the original?

    Sequels That Surpassed the Original

First I would def agree with terminator2 being better than its predecessor, everything u mentioned on the special effects, the t100 and the story- I would have said exactly the same.
What gripped me about this film was Edward furlong.he played his role a blinder and actually came across that he was scared shittless in the chase scenes.also his partnership with arnie worked a dime.

My film isn't a predecessor as such as - Spider-Man (Toby Maguire) and The Amazing Spider-Man (Andrew Garfield).
First and fore most when Spider-Man first came out with Toby I though it was the dogs balls cos of the fact I'm a massive marvel and dc fan and anything related got me pumped.
Then came The amazing Spider-man directed by Marc Webb casting Andrew Russell Garfield as the man himself.
Webb made Garfield everything that Sam Raimi should have made Maguire.
He portrayed Garfields character to be Smart, athletic, funny and whity everything that marvel comics showed us that Spider-Man should be where as Raimi more or less done the same sort of storyline following how Spider-Man got bit,the death of his uncle with Maguire but he came across less cocky, not as athletic and tbh a bit of a pussy when he put on the mask
Two different villains in the movies iv talked briefly about but all round I would say Webb's version of day 1 Spider-Man was way way way better than Raimi's day one release.

good stuff man, i think i'll agree with that. i did like that spiderman character, not the super hero but the character himself, a bit more now that i think of it. well thought out, great post bud. gotta be honest though, i loved Kirsten Dunst's nips in that rainy kiss scene/Randy Savage and Bruce Campbell appearance's and i'm also slightly partial to Raimi's style as i'm a huge Evil Dead fan but i gotta agree.

agreed again. i think maybe he wanted to break away from the horror stuff but that's where he shines, he has a style all his own.

hmmm didn't think about that one but yeah i can agree with that. the thing about that one that always did/will amaze me is how much Ledger didn't look/seem at all like Ledger. if he wasn't in the credits anywhere i probably still wouldn't know. probably one of the best villain performances ever in my book, minimum top 10 to me.
