My computer just completely reset back to factory settings. I restarted it because I did a windows update and that happened.

Cheech I lost photoshop and all the creations. I have no clue how to get them back so if you can maybe later this week we can re-install it?

I recommend downloading dropbox and keeping important files on their or get an external hard drive. Professionally, I recommend getting a subscription of Carbonite. It backs up your entire PC and keeps all files but its $60/yr.

Carbonite yes. It backs up to the web. External drive yes, but if the damaged like burning house data is gone. Dropbox you are limited to space.

Mainly you just need the activation code. Any flavor of the OS will work, you just need a disc. I have since upgraded my entire family to Win7 a few months back, with such magic.

What I was referring to here is Carnage getting some backup software so IF his PC goes belly up again, he does not lose all of his data.

To further this conversation Carnage, I think for home users with a little bit of data, you should be ok with a flash stick or an external drive. Unless you are concerned with the safety of your home. If you house is prone to and at high risk for disaster then maybe get the Carbonite, but as a home user with little data. I would say a 1-2 TB External HD will suffice.
