Call of Duty Advanced Warfare News

I was sifting through the news feeds these morning, and found a ton of information about the new Call of Duty Advanced Warfare game. I have posted the articles below. All of these came from the attackofthefanboy.com site.

According to an interview with Game Informer, the team at Sledgehammer Games are “bringing some big experiments to the core mechanics that will affect multiplayer and all modes of the game,” according to Activision’s Eric Hirshberg.

So just what will these “big experiments” be? Sledgehammer hasn’t revealed much about multiplayer at this point, but drops of information have begun leaking out to forums and websites across the web. Apparently these big experiements in Advanced Warfare will introduce new gameplay mechanics in the form of enhanced player movement, giving players more verticality with the ability to use boost jumps and grappling.

“With the advent of the exoskeleton and newly advanced armor and weaponry, every soldier commands tactical freedom in any terrain unlike ever before, fundamentally changing the way gamers play Call of Duty across all modes.”

The description of the game sounds very similar to some of the core mechanics found in Respawn Entertainment’s recently released shooter, Titanfall. It’s probably too early to point the finger at Sledgehammer Games for trying to ape their mechanics as we don’t know much about Advanced Warfare, but freedom of movement in Titanfall was one of the most highly praised aspects of that game, and one of the things that really separates it from other shooters.

If Activision adheres to their former marketing schedules, we won’t be hearing anything concrete about Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare multiplayer for a few months. While this is likely the game mode that the majority of Call of Duty fans are most excited to hear about, it’s likely that these new ideas will polarize fans if too drastic. Even following the game’s reveal just days ago, these small details already have some fans hoping it’s not too drastic of a change from the popular formula. On the hand, there’s a large community of shooter players who say that Activision and it’s Call of Duty studios fail to push innovation in their games.

The first trailer for Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare hit the web earlier this week, and now that the footage has been out in the wild for a couple of days, pixel counters are estimating that the Xbox One version of the game will have a resolution of at least 900p when it releases this November.

Trailer analysis gives the impression of a 900p title at launch

After putting an uncompressed version of the trailer under the microscope, Eurogamer reports that the Advanced Warfare trailer “gives the impression of a 900p title with post-processing anti-aliasing.”

The report claims that this would be around a 50 per cent improvement over the Xbox One version of Call of Duty: Ghosts, which launched last November on the Xbox One at 720p.

With so many months to go before Advanced Warfare releases, it’s hard to peg the exact resolution that the game will launch at. What is good for Call of Duty fans on the Xbox One, is that there seems to be a technological advancement over the last iteration of the game, making use of the new hardware not only from a resolution perspective but in others areas as well.

A next-gen leap for Call of Duty?

The naked eye can see that there’s a greater level of detail in the game,at least according to the trailer. Things like lighting, motion blur, character models and other elements should give the game a next-gen feel regardless of pixel count. Activision and Sledgehammer Games have made it clear that Advanced Warfare will be a game designed with the new consoles in mind. That means that we shouldn’t be held back by the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 this time around… hopefully. What this means as an end result isn’t quite clear. Sledgehammer Games hasn’t started talking technical details just yet, but the conversation is just getting started for those looking to compare the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 versions of the game.

Last year’s release of Call of Duty: Ghosts saw a large disparity between the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 versions. Where the PS4 released at a native 1080p resolution, the Xbox One version did so at 720p. It’s probably too early to start speculating, but you would assume that with more power behind the PS4, it’s possible that there will once again be a disparity between the two consoles when it comes to Call of Duty. Though if that does end up being the case, it’s odd that Sledgehammer and Activision would show the Xbox One version of the game for the reveal. Of course, the mighty marketing dollars of Microsoft could be at play here. After all, they’ve got an exclusivity agreement with Activision to bring Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare DLC to Xbox One one month ahead of other platforms.

It looks Activision and Microsoft will continue their partnership to bring Call of Duty DLC to Xbox One and Xbox 360 owners first. The timed exclusivity will last one month, leaving PlayStation and PC owners waiting, yet again, for downloadable content of the shooter.

The reveal of Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare has started to clear the air on rumors that suggested both that the PlayStation 4 would be the lead platform for the game, and that the exclusivity deal would be coming to a close. The first trailer for the game was shown marketing the Xbox One console, and today IGN has confirmed the timed exclusivity.

Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare is due out on November 4th, 2014.

According to GameStop’s Pre-Order page for the game, Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare will feature “Advanced World”, “Advanced Soldier”, and “Advanced Arsenal”.

    Advanced World:

Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare takes place in a plausible future in which technological progress and today’s military practices have converged with powerful consequences.
In this carefully researched and crafted vision of the future, Private Military Corporations (PMCs) have become the dominant armed forces for countless nations outsourcing their military needs, redrawing borders and rewriting the rules of war.
And Jonathan Irons, the founder and president of the world’s largest PMC – Atlas Corporation – is at the center of it all.

    Advanced Soldier:

Powerful exoskeletons evolve every aspect of a soldier’s battle readiness, enabling combatants to deploy with an advanced lethality and eliminating the need for specialization.
The introduction of this gameplay mechanic delivers enhanced player movement and verticality through boost jumps and grappling, covert cloaking abilities, and biomechanics that provide unparalleled strength, awareness, endurance, and speed.
With the advent of the exoskeleton and newly advanced armor and weaponry, every soldier commands tactical freedom in any terrain unlike ever before, fundamentally changing the way gamers play Call of Duty across all modes.

    Advanced Arsenal:

Harnessing the power of next-gen platforms, Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare brings players into the battlegrounds of the future by boasting a new hi-tech, advanced arsenal and ability set, arming players with all-new equipment, technology, perks, and vehicles like hoverbikes and highly specialized drones.
Players can also choose between standard ammunition and an all-new class of directed-energy weaponry that enables totally new gameplay dynamics.
And with exoskeletons delivering a massive force multiplier and unprecedented tactical freedom, Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare evolves every firefight.

as far as the high jumping goes, i guess it makes sense since the game looks to be set in the very distant future but the first thing that popped into my head was Titanfall, can't lie about that. i guess we'll see what happens.

All I can say is I've played cod since the original and imo none of the cod games that have come out since cod4 and waw could even compare. ESPECIALLY ghost, I'm sorry if u like it but that game is broken and completely unbalanced. And u can tell from how many players you see online for a game that is still relatively new. Sledgehammer better come up with a good balanced game or the franchises reputation will continue to deteriorate. Especially since battlefield is gaining so much popularity

I disagree this will make or break Sledgehammer games. Treyarch and Infinity ward are going to still have a following.
