Hi guys, just found this section and wanted to make an appearance.
My name is Craig, when i was 19 i joined the British Army, straight out of school into the Princess or Wales Royal Regiment (PWRR)
i stuck it out with this infantry regiment and did my basic training and my infantry specialists course with these guys, but when i turned 17 i applied for the royal engineers hopeful to become an Explosives Ordnance Disposal operator.
When i turned 17 and six months the Royal Engineers asked me to attend their engineering school at Brompton Barracks where i attended and was trained into Phase one of EOD but before i could even begin Phase two i was picked to join the Junior Leaders Cadre which meant i was one of the fortunates picked from the ranks and sent to Royal Military Academy Sandhurst where i became a 2nd Lieutenant after a year of incredibly hard work.
When i returned to my unit, 33 RE (EOD) i was deployed to Afghanistan for my first tour where i was stationed at Kandahar Airfield assisting in the Clearance of Mines and IED equipment but in a supporting role.
i returned home in a cold January only to be told i had completed phase two whilst on operations and would be requiered to redeploy in two weeks time, it was horrible but i spend those two weeks at home dreading my redeployment, but when it cam i was deployed to Camp Bastion working with Joint Operations EOD QRT which was a unit specially created so that should you discover IED's whilst on patrol etc we would fly in and attempt to remove the hazard,
i came home and was Redeployed again after 4 months to various locations within Helmand Province where on one fatefull morning i was involved in an IED strike outside on of our FOB's and sustained very little physical damage but sustained semi blindness in my right eye and loss of hearing in my right ear and a small amount of brain tissue damage that permenantly makes me feel like im on a boat in a rough sea. i lost a few good friends in that IED stike and was returned home and discharged on medical grounds, all before my 22nd birthday!
i now work for Natwest Banking Group (RBS) and i am now a Private Banking Regional Manager (PBRM)
and hate my job but it has allowed me to meet a few celebrities and governemtn officials due to the people that use the Private Banking scheme.
anyway i hope your all well
Craig
