Okay...for reasons I won't go into, I found myself with time to kill today. So, thought I'd open up my old pal Photoshop...although I'm now on CC Trial Version
Came up with this...it's not finished yet...any thoughts? I will be getting my name on there...

The white portion on top should be transparent...I'm hoping it is but I can't remember how to make sure it so for the web...can anybody help me out please?

Hell of a banner considering you haven;t done it since 2006. I use a custom plug-in to remove the white backgrounds for me. If you want, you could manually erase it so the white is transparent.
Oh, and did you save it as a .JPEG? .JPEG's usually don't keep the transparencies. .PNG's do, however.

Yes , make sure you save it as a png not a jpeg or jpg ....and if you save it for web change the file type to a png ...

It is indeed a personal banner (unfinished) but I'm happy either for it to be used on server as well or I can make another...I feel a few people would raise their hands to make server banners
