Good Shit, Rage, I have not talked to you much but I am very proud of you..
I am Active Duty Army right now and I know a E-6 Staff Sergeant who has been in 13 years and is very old school, and does not have a patch on his right arm, because he has not seen combat, and as an MP! Granted, he has been overseas the last 9 years (Germany, Japan, Korea, Bulgaria).
I respect you going through the National Guard, I will be realistic though, just because you went through the national guard doesn't mean you won't see combat, maybe less of a chance.... But check this out:
- Here you have an Active Duty soldier who let's say has been in for 2 years who has not been separated from the military world and actively engaged in military work, his/her MOS and has been training for combat and all aspects of combat actively with his/her unit for about a year. Also you WILL travel more as Active Duty and have a better idea of what you will do down range.
- Here you have a National Guard soldier who's minimum commitment (I believe) 1 weekend a month and 2 weeks a year, barely knows the unit and it's leaders and soldiers even after half of a year, does not get full pay based on a Grade to hour ratio pay, is constantly separated from the military, does not train much or even near as an active duty soldier who has been training for quite some time, this soldier DOES have more time to deal with school and maybe (hopefully) a full/part-time job/jobs and will less likely travel.
I'm not trying to down you, or make you regret your decision I just have to share my opinion based on my experience so far. Yes National guard don't deploy much but it is an option and a possibility, so I suggest getting with an active duty soldier if that date ever comes or getting with somebody that was been down range in your NG unit..
P.S. don't be offended if they call you N.asty G.irl in BCT just some good Hooah army fun..

I am not even in college yet. I am joining the National Guard because of that. I can't afford it. I have a 6 year commitment 4 of those i'm undeployable.
