i'm trying to think of something that really spooked me. i think it's impossible to call one movie or another the scariest thing ever because no two people have the same fears or react the same way to different subjects.
i remember my aunt telling me how after seeing The Exorcist in the 70's she couldn't sleep for a week. horror movies that come out nowadays make that movie look like Winnie the Pooh.
All of the following recommendations are available on Netflix.
a couple recent horror flicks i enjoyed were V/H/S and V/H/S 2. in both movies, people stumble across huge piles of VHS tapes (which is scary already) and they watch them. its like 3 or 4 short films within a movie. all of them are shot well but from a kind of hand held camera look. they have a snuff movie feel to them which i like except they are well produced. the stand out moment was in the first film, a demon? i guess chick bites a dudes dick off. i thought that was super fucking brutal.
The Cabin in the Woods was a great fucking movie. i was actually surprised. it's a horror movie with a interesting plot beyond just the typical modern "teen partying" horror movie. if you watch it, or if anyone else has seen it, all of the monsters are references to classic movie monsters or characters, and beyond the plot there is a really, really deep message that is very subtle.
another two that i like were Devil and The Devil Inside. guess what the subject matter is?
American Psycho is kind of like horror movie. Christian Bale aka Batman is a 80's era yuppy who kills people. in my opinion it was one of his best roles.
Hostel Part II was SUPER fucking brutal. i love that series. if you like twisted, gore movies thats a must watch.
i haven't got around to watching The Bay or The Hole yet but both of those titles look good.
if you want some classic horror theres Evil Dead 2 - which i might add is one of my all time favorite horror flicks - THE ORIGINAL DRACULA MOVIE NOSFERATU, Child's Play 2, Children of the Corn, Hellraiser, Silver Bullet, or Leprechaun 2 (sorry but those movies are fucking hilarious to me)
if your into classic black and white Universal monster movies then there's The Wolf Man, The Mummy and Dracula. i personally love those movies, especially around Halloween. everyone should watch one those at least once.
there was also this one movie i wanted to recommend about a little girl who buys a box at a yard sale that had a very malevolent demon inside. she opened it and slowly became possessed. it was really, really good. can't remember the name though...
anyway, that should keep you busy for a while. PLEASE if you watch any these if you enjoyed them LET ME KNOW! i appreciate feedback lol.
EDIT - turns out the name of that movie is The Possession. DERP. and it is on Netflix. in fact, i'm going to watch it right meow.
EDIT 2 - CONGRATULATIONS on completing your Marksman! GOOD JOB BEING ACTIVE ON THE FORUMS AS WELL! keep up the good work dude!

Cabin in the Woods was very inventive, loved it!
