No player on the football field is defenseless or in a vulnerable position. This is a contact sport from the kickoff to the last fucking second on that clock.
In the last 15 years there has really been no reason or need for teams to have 2 starting caliber quarterbacks because of the bullshit rules the nfl has been setting. The quarterback position has turned the whole nfl into a league of pussies, most of you never watched nfl games in the 80s when every player including the kickers were "open season".
In the 80s and early 90s, you still had teams with 2 great quarterbacks, like the 49rs with Montana and Young, the Cowboys with Aikman and Garrett, Rypien and Williams, Simms and Hosteller, Elway and Kubiak. While most of these back up quarterbacks only played sparingly, they were able to come into games when their starters were hurt because of a hit put on them from the defense. These quarterbacks did not bitch or cry about those hits, they spent their time on the sidelines and rooted their backups to win the games for them.
Now you have most quarterbacks getting payed $15-$20 million a year while all the other players get shit for their services, then when the qb gets laid out they don't have a capable quarterback or other players who can step up and win them games.
If quarterbacks were not getting paid so much money, the team owners wouldn't be pushing the nfl into making such bullshit rules to protect their "FRANCHISE PLAYERS". The nfl cap was the worst thing to have happen to the nfl, it ruined nfl Dynasties like the 49rs, the Cowboys, the Steelers, the Broncos, the Raiders and so many others.
The NFL and the team owners are not about giving us great teams to cheer for anymore, they are about making money, they are all about putting the greatest qb in the game, drafting the greatest quarterback in the game and getting help from the officials and the nfl so that their "FRANCHISE QUARTERBACKS" put on an air show with high scoring games while not allowing the defenses to hit the quarterbacks or wrs just for that reason.
In the 80s you had teams like the Chargers, the Skins, the Oilers, the Falcons, the Dolphins who regardless of the hits put on their quarterbacks and wrs, they were still able to put on an air show with high scoring games, the Chargers along with Don Coryell and Dan Fouts probably revolutionized the nfl and turned it into a passing league because of "Coryells" pass happy offensive scheme, but even then quarterbacks and wrs were not treated like pussies by team owners or the nfl.
When Dallas's quarterback Troy Aikman got knocked into retirement by Lavar Arrington, the nfl starting creating these bullshit rules and started fining players for hitting quarterbacks like nfl players should be hit, that was in 2000 and since then the nfl has turned to shit.
Steve Young one of the most aggressive scrambling Qbs got hit into retirement in 1998 and Jeff Garcia was able to take over for him, yet you didn't see Steve Young being a bitch about getting hit when he was scrambling or in the pocket.
I can go on forever about how and why the nfl has turned into a disappointing sport, but most of you probably weren't even born yet to even know what I am talking about, but without question, the nfl salary cap ruined the sport of football.
