    Local Gaming Center Research

    Hey CAG,

I and my wife have been in the process of opening our own Video Game LAN center that combines with Table Top games (Magic: the Gathering, D&D, etc.)

Part of my business plan research is to find the utilization in my local area. There is nothing like this in my area, so I feel it is a great business opportunity. Part of my research is to throw tournaments, LAN parties, etc. to get a feel of how many people would show up and pay me to play at my store.

I am hosting a tournament in Dec and am looking for a prize pool. I remember visiting a game center years ago that did a tourney and one of the prizes was one on one time with a top 50 MLG ranked Halo player.

I was curious if I could get a COD pro (or two) to help out with this. Do you guys like that idea? Would you think of a prize like this as worth the $5 entry fee?

Of course there are many other prizes and a $100 pool from me to go to the winning team. However, I want to find more unique prizes to give away.

Any advice would be great too!

    Thanks guys!

I know at my local shop, there was a $5 entry fee and the top 3 winners got a varying number of packs (we were playing MtG) depending on how many people had signed up. The more people the bigger the prize with a minimum of 8 people to play, I believe. With card games such as MtG, packs are ALWAYS a good prize.

Thanks for that info. The table top side I am not working on just yet, since there are 3 or 4 stores in the immediate vicinity of where I will be opening up shop. I have a lot of research already on the Magic: the Gathering side of things, too being in multiple tourneys myself.

For now, I am going doing a tourney for COD. I want to see the following and see if I can get a lot of people to pay to play. That is the biggest downfall a game store has is "Why do I want to come to your store and pay you per hour to play a game I can sit at home and play"

    Party, Friends, etc. That's why.
