GTA 5 Online Updates and News

Here is what I got from rockstar.com updated 9 hours ago:

[Updated 5:30 PM ET 10/3/13] GTA Online Launch Status -- Latest Updates

Question: I'm having problems getting into GTA Online! Is there a list of issues Rockstar is looking into, so I can stay informed about the status of fixes for known launch issues?
Answer: We will be updating this page as often as possible with the status of issues we are aware of and looking into.
    General network/cloud server issues

    • "Rockstar Cloud Servers Unavailable" error message
    • "Failed to Host a GTA Online Session" error messages
    • Errors saying "Timed out when matchmaking for a compatible GTA Online Session to join"
    • Errors about jobs failing to start or load
    • Misc. network and server-related error messages, disconnections, or cloud server errors
    • Errors saying "Mission Failed" as soon as the mission begins during a session
    • Long matchmaking load screens, eventually timing out after 10-15 minutes
    • Offline (disc-based) and online content mixing on the Jobs list
    • Ending up in a free-roam session with no jobs/markers on the map while playing as a temporary character during a cloud outage

Issues getting past the first Tutorial Race

10/2/13 Note: Some players have reported being able to get into the Tutorial race by re-downloading the Title Update, which can be deleted from Xbox Home or the PS3 XMB (Game Data Utility, NOT save data). Others reported having luck by selecting "Swap Character" from the Online tab within the pause menu, deleting the character that was unable to get into the tutorial, and then creating a new character. Going into GTAO in Solo mode may also help to allow completion of the tutorial. Some who were experience this issue have been able to get in just by trying again later.

    • Freezing while loading into first race in GTAO with "waiting for other players" on the screen
    • Seeing the same cut-scene twice in a row and then getting stuck on a load screen
    • Getting stuck transitioning into the lobby or race while other players are joining/leaving
    • Race Corona (start area, marker) not showing up for first race

    Social Club Issues

Update -- 4:30 PM ET 10/2/13: Here are the latest updates as of this afternoon.

    • For PlayStation 3 users, a PlayStation Network server issue was detected that was limiting the amount of possible concurrent users. This was preventing most players from accessing GTA Online altogether and as of this morning, that problem was resolved.
    • There is an issue that is preventing some players from getting through the first tutorial mission across both platforms. Many players have been able to get through this with repeated retries, and we are working on unblocking this for everyone as soon as possible.
    • This morning, we experienced some instability across the GTA Online services which is affecting even people who have progressed beyond the tutorial mission. We are identifying these issues now and are working to restore stability for users as soon as possible.
    • For the time being and until we have been able to get everybody access to GTA Online and things are running smoothly, we have disabled the option of purchasable GTA$ cash packs. Players can however keep on earning GTA$ by pulling off Jobs and other profitable gameplay activities rather than purchasing cash packs.
    Update -- 5:30 PM ET 10/3/13:

    • We're currently working on a title update for both PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 to address commonly reported issues with GTA Online. We hope to have it out for download as soon as tomorrow.

This was also posted on their site :

It's been a frustrating few days for players who have been looking forward to digging into Grand Theft Auto Online. Rockstar has issued a message to players who have been unable to connect to GTA V's online multiplayer. Basically, they've solved some of the problems, and more fixes are incoming.

The post on Rockstar's official site is more comprehensive, but that's the gist of it. Here is Rockstar's more in-depth update.

Rockstar adds that its entire team is working on these connectivity issues around the clock, and that they're hoping to have these initial technical issues resolved as quickly as possible.

I also just found this about GTA 5:

Rockstar Games runs through some of the issues that many players are encountering when they try to sign on with GTA Online inthe latest post on the Grand Theft Auto V developer’s Newswire blog. A big one that’s now been resolved on the PlayStation 3 side was a studio-set limit placed on the number of concurrent users, effectively blocking people from playing completely. Other issues relating to both the tutorial and the main portion of GTA Online remain, and all known issues are being logged to a Rockstar support page.

For the tutorial, many people have been running into issues with progressing through the mission, either from certain chunks of it not loading or from an assortment of progress-halting error messages. We can confirm this based on our own time spent in the online version of GTA V‘s Los Santos. There’s no one reliable fix, as it seems to be an issue of traffic overload. Some people suggest clearing your system cache or deleting the latest update or swapping characters or even just trying again later. All of these work, and none of them do, as is often the case with issues relating to a hammered cluster of servers. From our own experiences so far, it’s possible to get through the tutorial and into GTA Online proper if you’re patient and persistent; just keep trying to get past whatever the game is jamming up on, and it should eventually work.

The issues don’t disappear once you’re beyond those first steps. Sometimes you’ll see an error when you’re trying to link up with friends in freemode, or when you’re trying to join them on missions and competitive multiplayer showdowns. Other times you’ll error out when you just try to jump into any form of GTA Online lobby, with or without friends. As with the tutorial issues, our advice, based on our experiences so far, is just to be patient and persistent. You’ll get in eventually, and it should become easier to do so with each passing day. It’s not like Rockstar didn’t take steps to warn its users that there would be post-launch issues with GTA Online.

As a result of the ongoing issues, the ability to purchase “cash cards” – microtransactions that allows players to buy in-game money for real world dollars – has been disabled. Makes sense. Some of the issues being encountered relate to progress not saving or stored vehicles disappearing (again, firsthand experience here on both counts). It would frankly be foolish to buy any of those cash cards right now, and in turning off the feature completely, Rockstar inoculates itself against having to deal with angry fools alongside the pile of technical concerns.

The good news is that GTA Online shows a lot of promise when it’s working. Many of the promised features – like co-op heists and content creation – remain promises for now. But the straightforward experience of running around the giant open world with actual, living people is there, and it’s filled with delightfully emergent moments. You can participate in a number of adversarial modes, including races, team deathmatch and “Last Man Standing” (a one-life-per-round TDM variant), rob convenience stores and gas stations, and generally just raise hell as you might in your offline game. We’ll have more to say here at DT Gaming about GTA Online tomorrow, so stay tuned for that. For now, keep watching Rockstar’s support page and let us know in the comments below how your own adventures through a multiplayer Los Santos have felt so far.
