As I look at America today it gives me mixed emotions. I'm proud to serve our country as much as any other soldier out there, but lets look back at our history. After WW1 & WW2 any soldier could walk down the road and hitch a ride to the next town. Civilians were proud to pick them up, and soldiers always traveled in uniform. After Korea only about half the civilians still felt the same. Then came Vietnam. Most people would rather spit on a soldier than give him a cup of coffee on a cold night. Now I joined the military in 93 so there was no big celebration to be in the military. It was my duty to my country. The morning of 9/11 I went to breakfast before heading onto Benning. Not one person even nodded there head to me in uniform. Then the towers fell and we flew out that day. 6 months later I returned home to see a flag in every yard and on every car. There was a crowd waiting to welcome us home. It was the greatest feeling in my life, but yet I still felt sad. This was the welcome that should have went to the Vietnam vets who fought so bravely before us. And now today, so many years later, many have stopped flying there flags. Young ones do not know what it means to do and see the things we have done. So today. Remember those soldiers and remember your pride in America and don't let this nation forget those who died for our freedom, because we the Soldier will never forget the flag we fight for. Nor will we forget the soldier who fights with us.
