true on all that but his yardage is due to his short to medium range passes which is superb but if i had a mike wallace im not considering alex smith at all whatsoever. thats a waste. 3000 yards is mediocre by todays standards. 3000 is less than 200 a game thats horrid. in a passing league? cmon your better than that cheech lol.

Grits I will show you better alright, get ready:

Tom Brady for his career is averaging 4073 yards per season,

    Alex Smith 2381

Steve Young averaged 3312 per season

Dan Marino averaged 3609 per season

    Joe Montana averaged 3119

    Aaron Rodgers is averaging 4332

Don't forget that in this "passing league" the 49rs have one of the best rbs in Gore. Alex Smith didn't have to throw the ball as much as all the qbs I mentioned above. Those that I did mentioned where part of or are still part of pass happy teams.

You don't need a qb with an arm like Rodgers to have someone like Wallace put up huge numbers. Mike Wallace is a great route runner who would kick some serious ass in a west coast offense tailored for Alex Smith like Jim Harbaugh did in 2011 for Alex Smith.

There way too many qbs who I can mention that did not have strong arms and had very successful years in the NFL. Many of those qbs didn't even average 2500 yards per season.

Troy Aikman was another qb who did not have a cannon arm, yet he made it look easy when he threw the ball.

How about Matt Cassell who right now is supposed to have the weakest arm in the NFL out of all starting qbs...He passed for 3600 yards when he played in place of Tom Brady.

Ryan Fitzpatrick threw for more than 3000 yards that last 2 for more than 3400 yards and he doesnt have a strong arm either.

Mike Sanchez who has a fucking noodle arm passed for over 3300 yards 2 seasons in a row...

Andy Dalton, 3300 and 3600 yards his first two seasons and his arm is not something to brag about either.

If QBs are allowed to chuck the ball around regardless of their arm strength, they are going to get their yards up in the 3000-4000 yard mark.

Way too much emphasis is put on arm strength for qbs and again, one of the greatest qbs of all time did not have a strong arm, Joe Montana had a very average arm but he had precision. I rather have precision over arm strength any day.

Take a look at Vick, he has one of the strongest arms in the NFL, yet his accuracy has always been a problem.

You can argue that Alex Smith's accuracy is not up there, but to say he has no arm strength is taking it too far.

dont forget steve young was a very gifted pull it down and run guy. aikman also had irvin harper that te emmitt and moose so that has to be given alot of consideration. alot of those guys have atleast one great wideout. stevie johnson dwayne bowe that green guy the holmes guy. id could put up 3000 with those cats. vick may not be a great passer but his ability to avoid sacks/tacklers or make guys miss and bust those crazy runs ive never saw a qb run like that its incredible. he made guys look stupid in atl. i think that makes up for what he lacks as a pocket passer. though hes older now so. theres a huge buyer beware with that guy no one should sign him and anticipate brady or manning numbers.
