Let me start of by saying that yes I am a Redskins fan and this might seem a bit biased, but I am going to give you all facts as to why RG3 is the clear choice for Rookie of the Year.
As of week 16 heading into the final week of the season, RG3 is ranked #2 in the NFL behind Aaron Rodgers's 106.2 QB rating with a QB rating of 104.1 of his own. Out of the top 5 Quarterbacks in the NFL this year, only RG3 is averaging over 8 yards per attempt with 8.27. Take into account that he is doing this on a team who owns the #1 rushing offense behind an offensive line that every "expert" before the season started said was the Redskins's weakest unit.
Along with Aflred Morris who is also a rookie and is #4 in the NFL in rushing with 1413 yards behind Adrian Peterson (1,898), Marshawn Lynch (1,490) and Jamaal Charles (1,456), RG3 has managed to also put up 752 rushing yards of his own with 6 tds. Only Cam Newton who has 707 yards rushing is the only other quarterback this year in the NFL to rush for more than 500 yards this season.
RG3 has not only proven he can run the ball but also proven that he can pass it right up there with the best in the NFL. He has shown great poise, pocket awareness and the ability to escape from the pass rush and managed to only turn the ball over 5 times through the air. Yes he has 9 fumbles, but only 2 of those fumbles were turnovers.
All season long the Redskins had not been flagged for delay of game until last week against the Eagles when they tried to draw the Eagles offsides on a 4th and short but ended up taking the penalty which was the Redskins 1st delay of game flag all year long. What does that tell you? It tells me that RG3 has managed to stay composed even after playing 8 road games and against some of the toughest crowds like the Saints at the Superdome, Tampa Bay, Baltimore, Philadelphia and the Dawg Pound in Cleveland.
Many will say that Andrew Luck should be Rookie of the Year because he has taken the Colts from a 2-14 season to so far a 10-5 season and a playoff berth. But look at his numbers, he has a QB rating of 75.6 which puts him at #29 overall in QB rating, he has throw for 21 tds but has also thrown 18 interceptions with a completion percentage of 54.3 ! RG3 has a completion percentage of 66.4 which puts him at #5 out of all Quarterbacks this year behind only Matt Ryan (69.0), Peyton Manning (68.1) and Aaron Rodgers (67.0).
Yes he has thrown 146 less attempts than Aaron Rodgers's 512 attempts, but you can't blame him for that when his offensive coordinator is instructing him to run the ball.
We can argue that Andrew Luck should get it, but how can you without sounding like a fool? Both the Redskins and Colts have 2 of the worst defenses in the NFL this year, but that has not made RG3 commit the mistakes that Andrew Luck has, let me remind you again, 18 ints !
We can also say that RG3 has the luxury of having a workhorse of a running back in rookie Aflred Morris who should also be considered for Rookie of the Year and Andrew Luck doesn't have a running game up in Indianapolis, but you can attribute his high passing numbers to having to come back from behind in the 4th quarter 7 times to win. Yes that shows that he can win games, but RG3 has also come back from behind in the 4th quarter 3 times with 2 game-winning drives of his own.
There is no denying that Andrew Luck has played better than anyone expected him to, but no one expected for RG3 to have his Redskins one game away from winning the NFC Eeast!
Say what you want everyone, but I have given you facts, numbers and reasons as to why RG3 should be Rookie of the Year.
