    Surge Protector Ideas

So, with my new tv and such I want to get a good/decent quality surge protector to keep it all safe, however the typical brand I use, APC, doesn't have a surge protector big enough to handle all of my stuff.

I found this: http://www.amazon.com/Cyberpower-103...pr_product_top and it looks to be good, and is reviewed well both on amazon and newegg but the biggest common complaint is the power button breaking. It comes with a lifetime warranty and they would fix it, but I dunno if i want to deal with that headache. I'd personally like to stay away from monster since its just a severely over priced piece of plastic, but i need other ideas as to what to get for my home theater protection.

    Any help?
May not know what I'm doing, but by god I'll give it a try!

Regardless of what surge protector you buy bro, once you get hit with one surge from a storm, power failure or a fucking accident that causes a black out that surge protector is no longer safe to use.

The only thing you can do is is find a surge protector that protects against 600 or more joules when there is a surge. As long as the surge protector can protect from a strike of 600 joules you will be fine.

If you think those high priced surge protectors especially Monster will be better you are dead wrong. Like I said, all it takes is one surge and your current surge protectors are shit.

I use Dynex which protects you from 900 joules and you can get this at any best buy for less than 15 bucks. I would buy 2 maybe 3 of these to have an extra one in case you think your house got hit with a surge.

The best thing to do is to disconnect your appliances when ever you think there will be a big storm or you know there is lighting in the area.

I know the higher the jule rating, the more protection it offers and i know that once it takes a spike, its toast, but I usually have everything attached to a battery backup/line conditioning system. Regular surge protectors for home theaters i dunno bout I need my stuff to be well protected cuz i cant afford to replace it constantly after a storm lol

Just keep your tv and gaming goodies separated from everything else, like I said buy the Dynex and get 2 extra ones if you have to. Nothing you really can do bro, if it's going to happen its going to happen.

I have had my 60 inch already for a year, well almost a year and it has been through a few lighting storms. As soon as I know there is going to be lighting I unplug it and I wont game ever when there is lighting outside near by.

Knocked on wood and hopefully I remain smart and protected.

    Re: Surge Protector Ideas

Yeah my previous Xbox got jolted after a storm and got the rings. I had a surge protecter but we had a series of blackouts that summer.. I just unplug my power cord from the extension cable everytime. Its a hassle yes but well worth the hassle
