Call of Duty Black Ops 2 reworks matchmaking

Call of Duty Black Ops 2 reworks matchmaking

With less than a month to go before the release of ‘Call of Duty: Black Ops 2′ new details have emerged about the matchmaking system. With a game plan to cut down on lag in place, it looks like the new title will an improvement over past games.

In an effort to cut down lag times during matches in ‘Call of Duty: Black Ops 2′ Treyarch will be removing the ‘region’ matchmaking system and instead use latency measurements to pair-up players.

This should allow less lag and provide a much more consistent gameplay experience for players. This will also open the opportunity to play with players in a broader-sense, in a much wider radius. This could be good for those of you that play during off-peak times, when a majority of players may be asleep. More than likely though, you will be playing with people that are generally close to your location, as they should have the lowest latency statistics. How the new system will work in a real-life setting remains to be seen, but it does show Treyarch’s commitment to providing a better customer experience in their games.

The game will come in three editions (Standard, Care Package and Hardened Edition). Time is running out, the game comes out in just a few weeks, it is scheduled to launch on November 13, 2012 on PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 and the Wii U. You can check out all three editions and the bonus DLC that comes with pre-ordering at Amazon.com.

Black Ops 2 Matchmaking to Be Based on Ping and Latency, First Glimpse at Nuketown 2025

Here's your first look at Nuketown 20205 in Black Ops 2! Also, matchmaking news straight from Vonderhaar himself.

Treyarch has given us our first glimpse at Black Ops 2's Nuketown 2025 multiplayer map. Just in case the name wasn't a dead giveaway enough, Nuketown 2025 is a re-imagining of Black Ops' most loved/most hated map -- depending on your preference.

Here's our first -- albeit, very short -- look on Nuketown 2025.

Okay, I admit, that wasn't much. There's the sign, the familiar 50's car and the mannequin...and that's pretty much it. Of course, given that this is an updated look, I'd expect the basic layout to be the same. There's the cluster of vehicles in the center, the two houses from either side and a whole clusterfuck of action -- which, depending on the player -- either they can't get enough of, or one of the maps they loathe the most. Personally, I kind of like it, but not to the extent that it's my favorite map.

Nuketown 2025 is a free map for pre-ordering Black Ops 2.

Now that's out of the way, Black Ops 2 Game Director David Vonderhaar has confirmed on Twitter that Black Ops 2's matchmaking will be based on the player's latency and ping, not the region you're in.

Call of Duty fans might remember that the last Call of Duty game -- Modern Warfare 3 -- managed its matchmaking system based on the player's region.
