Sony Shutting Down Old SOCOM Servers

A very sad day indeed, just like many others, SOCOM on PS2 were some of the best times I had playing online, very sad what has become of SOCOM, they completely ruined the game......

    Sad news for old-school fans.

There was a time when SOCOM was all the rage on PlayStation 2. The PS2 trilogy of SOCOM games were popular with players for a long time, as were their PSP counterparts. However, with the subpar attempts at recapturing that success on PlayStation 3 with MAG and SOCOM 4, the fortunes of the franchise turned. This ultimatey culminated in the closure of SOCOM’s Sony-owned development house, Zipper Interactive, earlier this year, directly after it released Unit 13 on PlayStation Vita.
As such, news was uncovered by The Real SOCOM, via the PlayStation Forums, that legacy SOCOM servers will be shutdown later this summer.

“On August 31, 2012 Sony Computer Entertainment America will be terminating the on-line service for the following PlayStation 2 and PlayStation Portable software titles,” the forum post from PSForumMods reads. Affected games include SOCOM: US Navy SEALs, SOCOM II: US Navy SEALs, SOCOM 3: US Navy SEALs and SOCOM Combined Assault on PlayStation 2, as well as SOCOM: Fireteam Bravo, SOCOM: Fireteam Bravo 2, SOCOM: Fireteam Bravo 3 and SOCOM: US Navy SEALs Tactical Strike.
Zipper Interactive’s three newest titles – MAG, SOCOM 4 and Unit 13 – weren’t mentioned. Presumably, their respective servers will remain online.
This news will no doubt sadden the most ardent followers of the franchise, though many gamers have long since moved on from these titles. Nonetheless, The Real SOCOM notes that the server closures will occur four days after SOCOM’s ten year anniversary, marking a sort of sad conclusion for the once-proud PlayStation franchise.

Old SOCOM games where the best lesster, nothing like SOCOM games to play online, they were by far the best games I have played online. They just don't make games like they used to, very sad what SONY has allowed these guys to do with SOCOM, maybe this will open SONY's eyes and let SOCOM come to the XBOX soon, that would be sick!

They were suppose to start making SOCOM for xbox 360 in 2012 which is this year of course, but SONY blocked the port to 360 about 3 years ago, which is around when SOCOM games started looking like shit.

The game is similar to ghost recon and rainbow six, they are very tactical games, well they were. the story lines on the first SOCOM games were amazing, but they ruined them
