Ghost Recon: Future Soldier "The Wait Is Almost Over"
by CheechDogg
On May 22nd, 2012 veteran gamers of Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon series will finally end a 5 year wait with the release of Ghost Recon: Future Soldier. There is no question that the Ghost Recon series helped pave the way for console multiplayer gaming for both 1st and 3rd person shooters and for a span of 7 years it reigned supreme as the favorite of mutiplayer gamers.
The Ghost Recon series first debuted in 2002 with the release of Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon on both the XBOX and PS2 and was named Best Game of the Year by both IGN and PC Gamer and for good reasons. For the first time military enthusiasts could enjoy and experience military style gameplay on their consoles. Up until the release of Ghost Recon in 2001 the only game that delivered such an experience was Counter Strike but was only on PC and it was a tactical anti-terrorist shooter.
Ghost Recon allowed up to 16 players to play online with teams of 8 players each. You could play one of four classes, Rifleman, Support, Demo and Sniper and the game modes included deathmatch, capture the flag, siege, cat and mouse, domination, defend and behemot. It later got expansion packs, Island Thunder for the XBOX and and Jungle Storm for the PS2 which kept everyone busy till 2004 when Ghost Recon 2 came out. As a result of players being able to pair with up to 7 others per team small groups began taking on pseudonyms not only for themselves but for their "team" as well.
In 2004 Ghost Recon 2 picked up where it left off with Ghost Recon and quickly sparked the interest of PC gamers. It switched from a first-person perspective to the 3rd-person perspective much like SOCOM: US Navy Seals on the Playstation and it also introduced the "Unreal Engine 2" to console gamers which allowed it to do things that another popular game developed by Red Storm and produced by Ubisoft called "America's Army" was able to do on the PC. Ghost Recon 2 would also get an expansion pack but as a stand alone which introduced the Clan System to gamers.
Ubisoft and Red Storm did not stop there, in 2006 three different versions of Ghost Recon: Advance Warfighter (GRAW) were released on four different consoles, the regular XBOX and Playstation as well as the new XBOX 360, PS3 and Windows. While the regular XBOX and Playstation versions still used the "Unreal Engine 2" engine, the 360 and PS3 both had Ubisoft's own "YETI" engine. This engine allowed for true HD graphics from both the 360 and PS3 and a new beast was born!
For the first time thanks to Ubisoft and Red Storm console gamers were able to experience not only beautiful HD graphics but also real lifelike movement and gameplay in video games that was fluid and responsive. The player models had detail unlike nothing ever seen before in console games. And it did not end there as a sequel to GRAW was released the following year in 2007 named Ghost Recon: Advance Warfighter 2 (GRAW 2).
From 2001 to 2008 the Ghost Recon Series alone sold over 16 million copies making it one of the best selling video games, together with Rainbow Six and Splinter Cell through 2008, Tom Clancy games sold over 50 million copies worldwide. Although sales numbers for the Ghost Recon series don't compare to those of the COD series, the gamers who have played the Ghost Recon series games are considered on a broader scale more skilled and team oriented than COD series gamers.
So yes, the wait is finally over! Ghost Recon: Future Soldier is almost here. And let me tell you that the game just in its beta stage is already turning out to be the best Ghost Recon game ever. As a matter of fact, the game is already better than any COD Series game ever made. No more perks and horrible hit detection, no more one slice of the knife and you are dead that make your jaw drop moments. This game takes skill and teamwork and arcade gamers that bought into the "run-n-gun" concept that the COD series sold to them are not going to have fun playing this game.
As a matter of fact, if you are a diehard COD series gamer don't even think about picking this game up, because you will only end up trading it in within your first month or two. In Ghost Recon: Future Soldier, every turn of a corner could get you killed and standing out or running across the open will definitely get you killed.
You want to hear more about Ghost Recon: Future Soldier? Check back tomorrow and I will post my personal first impressions of the game in detail and give you a more thorough review of the beta so far.
